30 Minutes With Jeff Glotzl:

Shooting Plates and Finding Donors: Photography with Retouching in Mind.

We’ve all been there: everything is perfect… except for the background. Maybe the art director decided they needed a vertical after all. Perhaps the big beautiful octabank you bought is reflecting in the window. Maybe the client’s cousin’s, uncle’s podiatrist thinks the model should be standing in a lake.

Whatever the reason, it helps to know just how to photograph a scene with some some aces up your sleeve. Shooting background plates, getting lighting variations, or capturing additional donor images can make the difference between simply recording a scene and crafting an image. It can also be the difference between a smooth post production process and thousands of dollars in additional retouching.

Jeff Glotzl, expert retoucher and compositer, will share some tips and tricks on how to plan, execute, and deliver images that wow any client. Whether it’s breathing new life into an image by replacing an element (or entirety) of a background, grabbing a few extra detail shots for parts, or matching lighting and camera angles, Jeff will share real examples of images that have been transformed through artful and meticulous retouching.

Jeff Glotzl is a digital artist that until very recently worked out of Richmond, Virginia. Now residing on a small island off the coast of Maine, he continues to work for brands across all sectors including Arby’s, Nike, Pfizer, Sports Authority, and Wounded Warriors. When not working he is probably still unpacking boxes in search of his winter mittens and dreaming of summers off the Maine coast.
