A Photo Contest for Social Distancers
DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 5/1, PLUS ADDITIONAL CATEGORIES!
We’re please to announce ‘APA|DC at Home’, a poorly named and hastily produced photography competition, free for APA|DC members. The rules are few but the glory will extend from here to eternity, or at least until we can all get back to work.
One winner from each category will win a $50 gift card* from either District Camera in Arlington/DC or Service Photo in Baltimore. All winning images (including (2) honorable mentions in each category) will be displayed–with the photographer’s name–on APA|DC’s website and in an announcement sent to area creative agencies, publishers, and organizations that hire photographers.
*If sales from non-members exceed $250 ($50 x 5 categories) the value of the winning cards will increase.
The Rules:
All images must be made between 3/16/20 and 5/1/20.
Maximum of (2) entries per person per category.
All images must be made at the photographer’s place of residence, with the exception of “Travel” which must be made within reasonable walking distance of the photographer’s place of residence.
Judges’ decisions are final.
Categories:
Travel (images made outside of the home/property but within walking distance.)
Portrait (self or other)
Wildlife/Nature (pets, backyard critters, backyard, etc.)
Still life (found or conceived compositions)
Other (conceptual, abstract, alternative process, etc.)
(NEW!) Student category (no entry fee, $25 first prize, open category.)
(NEW!) Video (open category, 5 minute max. length)
The Process:
This competition is free for APA|DC members and $5 per entry for everyone else. (Want to join?)
APA|DC members, please skip to step #4.
If you are not a current APA member, please go to our eventbrite page before proceeding to step 4, below. Then, send your confirmation number along with your images, to the email address below. Please remember that the fee is $5 per image, with a maximum of 2 entries per category.
All images should be emailed to director@apadc.com and named in this manner: “LastnameFirstname-Category”. Images should be .jpgs, at 1800 pixels on the long end. In the instance where a photographer submits more than one image per category, the number “1” or “2” should be added to the end of the file name. Example: “RakolaMatthew-portrait1.jpg" (Video entries, please send link only to director.)
You will receive a confirmation email, usually within 8 hours. If you do not receive a confirmation, please call or text 202-664-0601 to verify that we’ve received it.
All file names will be converted to the photographer’s member ID number or eventbrite confirmation # to insure fair judging.
There will be a first place and two honorable mentions in each category. The winner of each category will receive a $50 gift card from District Camera in Washington, DC/Arlington or Service Photo in Baltimore. (Student winner will receive a $25 card.)
The winner of each category will be eligible for a Best-of-Show award, to be determined.
